Grant Information

Are you looking for a grant?

Do you know a foundation in your community or region that funds youth and community initiatives?

Trying to figure out where to start and how adventure fits in?

Adventure techniques combined with traditional training tools result in a high level of involvement, insight, opportunity and engagement. Specifically designed and structured initiatives and/or challenge ropes course elements help create a safe and supportive learning environment. Time is always dedicated to helping participants transfer the techniques, skills and insights into strategies and behaviors they can use in the school, community and their families.

High 5 has worked with PEP, 21st Century, Drug Free Schools and Communities and COP grantees to successfully integrate innovative experiential programming with traditional programs thus enhancing curriculums, achieving standards and positively engaging people in a healthy activity that will be part of lifelong learning.

As part of your grant High 5 can offer:

  • Team building for potential trainers
  • Building trust and commitment to the grant
  • Developing an inclusive team to facilitate the grant
  • Recruitment of adults to facilitate the implementation of the grant
  • Training in facilitation, leadership and experiential skills
  • Basic experiential theory and it’s connection to personal and community change
  • Enhancing skills of facilitators to be able to lead groups that are safe and support risk taking, honest feedback and open communication
  • Creation of a clear vision and structure for how to complete the grant
  • Building a community spirit and sense of team
  • Practice of briefing and debriefing techniques and use of metaphors to accomplish program goals
  • The use of adventure activities as a non-traditional approach
  • Instruction in facilitation, sequencing of games, initiatives and low and high ropes course elements
  • Exploration of perceptions, beliefs and values and the impact on an inclusive effort
  • Set up and take down of elements, review of hardware
  • Training in belaying, spotting and other protocols for safe facilitation of an adventure program
  • Training in alternative activities to use as back-ups

Some anticipated outcomes of these trainings could include:

  • Enhanced facilitation and leadership skills
  • Ability to facilitate and integrate the grant with traditional programs
  • Briefing and debriefing techniques to utilize to achieve grant goals
  • Opportunity to take a community and/or school leadership role
  • A facilitator’s manual for leading groups
  • A team empowered to lead the process

Personal skill development for ethnically and socio-economically diverse communities

  • A team of individuals prepared to facilitate programs that are experiential in nature
  • Enhanced ability to design adventure based programs
  • A team committed to a common vision and goals with the skills to achieve that vision

The school grants site has a great rubric to do to see if you are ready to pursue the grant you are looking at. I would recommend you do this prior to applying to make sure you have a solid plan and the support that will be needed to provide a good application.

Finding funding sources can feel daunting, but with a little research and a good support system, which High 5 can be part of, you can achieve your adventure dreams.
